Proposition 1

California voters passed Proposition 1 in November of 2014 in support of a Groundwater Sustainability Program. The bulk of the $800,000,000 Grant went towards prevention and cleaning up contaminated groundwater.

The City of Modesto applied for, and received, grant funding for 90% of the cost of the “Destruction of Water Supply Wells” project through the Groundwater Sustainability Program the goal of which is to remove contamination from drinking water. This project focuses on 14 wells that the city had taken offline due to contaminants that exceeded maximum contamination levels allowed by the state of California. These wells have been determined to be unsuitable for rehabilitation but pose a possible threat to groundwater that is deeper within the ground.
