Wastewater Pretreatment for Fats, Oils and Grease
Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) are by-products that homes and food-service establishments (FSE) must constantly manage. FOG is a serious problem because even a small amount can cause sewer issues. A small amount of grease in sink drains can cause serious blockages in home plumbing or, even worse, a sewer overflow in your home or yard.
Sanitary sewer systems are neither designed nor equipped to handle the FOG that can accumulate on the interior of the municipal sewer collection system pipes from improperly maintained discharges. The best way to manage FOG is to keep the material out of the plumbing systems.
Typically, FOG enters a facility’s plumbing system from washing, floor cleaning, and equipment sanitation. Best Management Practices reduce the amount of FOG entering the sanitary sewer system, preventing blockages and reducing the risk of a sanitary sewer overflow.
