Modesto's trail system is designed to connect the places that the citizens of Modesto live, work and play and is intended to facilitate the movement to and from those places, in addition to providing access to outdoor recreation areas. The City of Modesto has developed 17 miles of dedicated bike and pedestrian trails with active plans to increase this number in future years. In addition, the City of Modesto has also developed 13 miles of Class 2 Bike Lanes, 8.1 miles of Class 3 Bike Routes and 3.3 miles of Class IV Separated Bikeways to further encourage non-motorized transportation throughout the City. Future Plans
Several expansion projects are well into the planning process at this time, with funding from State and Local grants, as well as local parks and non-motorized transportation funds.
Featured Parks Planning Projects
- Northward expansion of the Virginia Corridor - Currently in Phase 7: Crossing Standiford Ave and tying into the Hetch-Hetchy trail north of West Union Avenue.
- 0.8 mile south-westward expansion of the Tuolumne River Regional Park - Riverwalk Trail (Gateway Park below Highway 99 to Neece Drive/Rouse Ave).
- Eastward expansion of the TRRP Riverwalk Trail (Crossing Dry Creek to the existing Trail at Mary Grogan Grove).
- The southern connection of the Peggy Mensinger Trail (Dry Creek Regional Park) to the TRRP Riverwalk.
