Lateral Entry

The Lateral Police Officer position is available for candidates who have a valid California Basic Peace Officer standards and Training (POST) Certificate and have at least one year experience with their current California law enforcement agency.    

The Lateral Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local municipal codes, violations, and traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special crime prevention and enforcement programs; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the department.

Lateral Hiring Incentive Pay

Currently, the Lateral Police Officer Hiring Incentive is $20,000; paid $5,000 at date of hire, $5,000 at the time of successful completion of the field training program, $5,000 at the end of their probationary period, and $5,000 upon completion of their two-year anniversary. (A repayment schedule for this incentive is in place, should the employee leave prior to the end of their 5th year of employment.)
