Youth Commission

Mission Statement

The mission of the Modesto Youth Commission is to provide Modesto young people from diverse walks of life with the opportunity to participate actively in the governmental process, to provide advice and input on matters impacting youth, and act as liaison between the youth of Modesto and the City Council on matters affecting the quality of life for all youth.

Vision Statement

  • To expand civic participation opportunities to diverse youth to share ideas, recommendations, and youth perspective in the development of City of Modesto programs and policies that affect their lives.
  • To educate youth through guidance and meaningful participation in the processes of civic engagement including the procedures for advocacy, collaboration, communicating the needs of youth, decision-making, leadership, and planning.

This commission meets at the Tenth Street Place, Room 2005 (unless noted on the agenda), on the 2nd Wednesday every month at 4:00 PM.

Applications 

The 2025-2026 school year application deadline has passed. All complete and eligible applications will be presented to the Appointment's Committee for candidate selection. Applicants may be contacted during the selection process to schedule an in-person interview. 

Term

Youth Commissioners serve a two year term, September through August. Membership is contingent upon being a full-time high school student. Upon graduation, members are still eligible to participate in the Commission, but shall no longer be an active, voting

Commissioner.
