The following policy has been created pursuant to the Modesto Municipal Code 9-1.708 Fee Refunds. This policy is not intended to cover all scenarios that may relate to permit fee refunds. All refunds must be approved by the Chief Building Official.
Refunds may be issued for the following:
- Permit has been issued and the applicant requests a refund for the permit fees due to the project being abandoned. The permit is under the two year threshold and no inspections have been performed. Only the portion of the permit that has not been acted upon will be refunded. Plan check or building permit fees may be refunded only if a plan check or building inspection has not been performed. Portions of a plan check or building permit fees may not be refunded once the plan check or inspection process has started unless otherwise approved by the Chief Building Official.
- It is discovered that the permit fee was miscalculated and applicant was charged too much.
- Any other division error that may require a refund.
To request a refund, you must complete the Refund Request form and submit it in person at the Building Safety Division or by mail to: City of Modesto, Building Safety Division, PO Box 642, Modesto, CA, 95355.
