1. What are the rules for irrigating Turf or Ornamental landscapes?

Watering is only permissible during allotted watering schedule days and times. Watering is not allowed during and 48 hours following measurable rain (.01 inch). For measurable rain data refer to the Modesto Irrigation District website.

2. Does the City of Modesto offer assistance in setting my sprinkler timer?

Yes. The City of Modesto Water Division offers a free service called a Water Audit, where a trained specialist will walk through your home with you to identify common sources of leaks and water wasting. Part of this service includes setting your sprinklers for you. Appointments are scheduled for Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule your appointment, please call 209-342-2246.

3. How long do I have to repair a water leak?

Once identified by the City, a water leak must be repaired within 24 hours to prevent additional water waste.

4. If I have a private well, do I have to adhere to the watering schedule?

Citizens on private wells are strongly encouraged to adhere to the City of Modesto watering schedule. To report water waste such as excessive runoff from citizens with private wells within Stanislaus County, please call 209-525-6700 or 800-2-ASSIST.

5. Are drip irrigation systems exempt from the watering schedule?

Yes, drip irrigation systems are exempt from the watering schedule. Drip irrigation is permitted at any time with the use of a positive shutoff nozzle.
